Alpen Binoculars
Alpen binoculars are manufactured by a relatively new company in this field, Alpen Optics. Specialising in sports optics Alpen was established in 1997 and produced binoculars, spotting scopes and accessories. Alpen binoculars aim to deliver good quality at affordable prices whilst including features found in more expensive products.
Alpen has a wide range including 70 products and accessories. An important feature is that the company offers a limited life time factory warranty on its products. You may have seen the Alpen name previously as it has been an active sponsor for several television shows including just huntin, on the right track, out doors in the heartland and bighorn out doors.
Alpen binoculars typically retail for $300 to $400 and it is claimed that they produce similar image quality to some of the premium binoculars which sell at $1700. It appears that new entrants to the market have to work hard to sell their products. Careful analysis of the design and construction of several Alpen binoculars reveals that they are similar to those of premium brands.
The company quotes an example of a man who took his Alpen binoculars on a trip and accidentally let them hanging on a tree branch. He thought that he had lost them but found them the year after when he returned to repeat the hunt. Despite being exposed to the elements for 12 months and experiencing wind, rain and snow together with icy conditions the Alpen binoculars in good optical condition. It should be noted that the rubber eyecups had decomposed but this is only to be expected after such treatment.
